NEW DELHI (Commoditiescontrol) - Prices of sugar ruled mixed at the Mumbai market on Tuesday due to selective demand from the bulk buyers.
In Mumbai, prices were at Rs 3,230-3,322 a quintal for S-grade and at Rs 3,426-3,562 for M-grade, as per Bombay Sugar Merchants Association.
As per traders, prices of medium-grade sugar rose in most wholesale markets of the country today because of firm demand from sweet manufacturers due to the ongoing marriage season.
Meanwhile, crushing operations have yet not started in Maharashtra–the second largest producer. The sugar commissionerate has recommended Nov 25 as the date for start of crushing cane. Of the total 195 mills in the state, only 161 may crush cane this season due to low availability of cane, Gaikwad said. So far, only 105 mills have applied for licences to crush cane.
