Jeera: Spot Prices Extend Upmove amid Firm Demand, Strong Futures

Mumbai (Commodities Control) - Spot jeera prices ended stronger for the second consecutive trading session tracking firm demand and strong futures markets. The spice upped Rs 20-25 per 20 Kgs in Rajkot and Unjha on Tuesday. The spice varieties upped Rs 30-40 per 20 Kgs in the last two trading sessions.

NCDEX October futures ended Rs 70 higher at Rs 13,745 per Quintal and November futures was Rs 130 up to settle at Rs 13,820 per Quintal on Tuesday.


Unjha mandi reported arrivals of 10,000 bags unchanged from last session. Rough jeera was quoted at Rs 2155-2255 and NCDEX quality was priced at Rs 2355-2405 per 20 Kgs, up Rs 25 each. Best quality upped Rs 25 to Rs 2505-2555 per 20 kgs.


Rajkot mandi reported unchanged arrivals of 800 bags from the last session, while prices rose Rs 20 per 20 Kgs for all jeera varieties. Europe and Singapore quality were quoted at Rs 2390-2490 and Rs 2290-2435 per 20 Kgs, respectively. Singapore-Mundhra was quoted Rs 20 higher at Rs 2740-2765 and Discolour variety was priced at Rs 2290-2340 per 20 Kgs, up Rs 20.


According to Spices Board of India estimates,during April-July 2020 4.33 Lk tonnes of spices were exported, valued at 7760 Crores, while last year 3.2 Lk tonnes of spices were exported, value of which was reported at around
Rs 7028, for the corresponding period. This accounts for nearly 10% of rise in terms of quality and value exported.

Due to its immunity-boosting properties Indian spices are being sought after by China, Iran, Morocco and Bangladesh apart from the usual importers- U.S and Europe.
