Paddy, Basmati Rice Stay Unchanged as Demand Slows on Increased Prices

NEW DELHI, Sept 17 (Commoditiescontrol) - Paddy and basmati rice prices mostly stayed unchanged in North on Friday as limited demand emerged on higher prices. Along with Punjab, weather remained clear in Haryana today, due to which arrival of paddy increased in the mandis. According to traders, if weather remains clear, then the arrival of paddy will increase further, which will put pressure on the prices.

In Punjab's Amritsar Mandi, the arrival of new paddy increased to 80 thousand - one lakh kattas, while the prices of Pusa 1,509 variety of new paddy softened by Rs 25 to Rs 2,600 to 2,891 per quintal. Parmal paddy prices ranged from Rs 1,400 to 1,580 per quintal depending on the quality. In the Tarn Taran mandi of the state, the arrival of paddy was 14,000 to 15,000 bags, with the price of Pusa 1,509 variety was Rs 2,750 to 2,999 and the price of Parmal was Rs 1,300 to 1,600 per quintal. The price of Pusa 1,509 variety in Rajpura mandi of the state was Rs 2,880 to Rs 2,905 per quintal.

In Haryana's Kaithal mandi, 3,500 bags of paddy arrived on Friday and the prices of Pusa 1,509 variety of paddy stood at Rs 2,925, Rs 2,915 in Tarawari Mandi, Rs 2,890 per quintal in Cheeka Mandi. In Samalkha Mandi, Pusa 1,509 variety of paddy was sold at Rs 2,901, Gharaunda Mandi at Rs 2,841 and Indri Mandi at Rs 2,925 per quintal. According to traders, the arrival of paddy improved in the mandis of Haryana today. If the weather remains clear, the arrivals are expected to increase further from next week.

In Delhi's Narela mandi, Pusa 1,509 variety of paddy (harvsted by machine) was quoted at Rs 2,851 per quintal on Friday. In Uttar Pradesh's Garhmukteshwar mandi, 2,000 bags of paddy arrived and the prices of Pusa 1,509 ranged from Rs 2,651 to Rs 2,926 per quintal. According to traders, the moisture content in new produce is coming up to 20 to 25 percent.

In Delhi's Naya Bazar, Pusa 1,509 Sela rice prices remained stable at Rs 4,900 to 5,200 and Steam at Rs 5,600 to 5,900 per quintal. The price of steam rice of Pusa 1,401 variety was quoted at Rs 6,200 to 6,400 per quintal. Pusa 1,121 basmati rice steam prices remained stable at Rs 6,400-6,600 and its Sela rice at Rs 5,500-5,700 per quintal.
