Jeera prices flat at spot, futures fall

Unjha 19 January (Commoditescontrol) The prices of Jeera (cumin seed) witnessed a steady tone in the spot markets of Unjha and Rajkot, while futures ended lower.

After continuous ups and down in jeera prices since last week prices were arrested today at the physical markets.

As per a report, a decline of 52% was observed in exports of jeera of December month which were around 13082 tonnes in 2021, while 2020 December had export figures of 27369 tonnes.

Moreover, The 11 months export figures of 2021 February to December are 2,27,682 tonnes against 2,61,618 tonnes in the corresponding period a year ago which shows a fall in exports by 13 %.

The production of the spice this year is expected to drop 30 to 40 % due to low sowing area.

However, export demand is expected to rise in upcoming days, as the production in Syria had fallen by roughly 25-30 percent in 2021, versus the previous year because of political instability.

Arrivals of Jeera at Unjha market were 7800 bags, while Rajkot market had arrivals of 500 bags.

Jeera futures for Jan delivery traded in a range of Rs 17450 to 17650 on the NCDEX today and the current month contract closed at Rs 17450 per quintal, down 125 or 0.71 % from the previous session.
