Paddy, Basmati rice prices rise in North on improved demand

NEW DELHI, Jan 27 (Commoditiescontrol) - Basmati rice as well as paddy prices rose in north India on Thursday due to higher demand. According to traders, the local demand for Basmati rice has increased, while the selling from the mills is coming down. The supply of paddy from the farmers has been less in the mandis of these states than before, while the stockists are not selling at lower prices. Therefore, a slight improvement in their current price is likely ahead.

The prices of Pusa 1,509 variety Basmati Sela rice rose by Rs 200 to Rs 6,400- 6,600 and its steam rice by Rs 100 to Rs 7,100 - 7,300 per quintal at Naya Bazar in Delhi on Thursday. The price of steam rice of Pusa 1,121 variety rose by Rs 100 to Rs 7,500 - Rs 7,700 per quintal, while its Sela rice also rose by Rs 100 to Rs 6,600- Rs 6,800 per quintal. The price of 1,401 variety of steam rice rose by Rs 200 to Rs 6,500 - Rs 6,700 and its Sela rice by Rs 100 to Rs 6,200- Rs 6,400 per quintal.

In Delhi's Narela Mandi, the prices of Pusa 1,121 variety of paddy rose to Rs 3,651, 1,718 variety to Rs 3,580 and 1,509 variety to Rs 3,331 per quintal. In Najafgarh Mandi, the prices of Pusa 1,121 variety of paddy climbed to Rs 3,800 and 1,718 variety to Rs 3,692 per quintal.

In Haryana's Tohana Mandi, the prices of Pusa 1,121 variety rose to Rs 3,725, 1,401 variety to Rs 3,570 and 1,718 variety to Rs 3,600 per quintal. In Sonipat Mandi of the state, the prices of Pusa 1,121 variety of paddy moved higher to Rs 3,736 per quintal, while in Gohana Mandi, the prices of 1,121 variety of paddy climbed to Rs 3,771 and 1718 variety to Rs 3,671 per quintal.

In Punjab's Muktsar Mandi, the price of Pusa 1,121 variety of paddy firmed up to Rs 3,800 and 1718 variety to Rs 3,692 per quintal. In the Kotkapura Mandi of the state, the price of 1,121 variety of paddy rose to Rs 3,600 - Rs 3,780, 1,401 variety of paddy to Rs 3,450 and 1,718 variety to Rs 3,560 per quintal.

In Rajasthan's Bundi Mandi, the price of Pusa 1,121 variety of paddy climbed to Rs 3,250 - Rs 3,600, 1,718 variety to Rs 3,200 - 3,615, 1,509 to Rs 3,000- 3,310 and DP variety of paddy to Rs 2,750 - Rs 2,830. per quintal.
