Mumbai, June 27 (Commoditiescontrol) The spice market remained under pressure last week as only red chill prices added while other major spices like cumin seed, coriander seed and turmeric ended the week in lower range. However, prices of the most spices may improve this week but overall trend is likely to remain range bound.

Cumin seed

Cumin seed prices were down by Rs 100-500 per quintal on a weekly basis in the physical markets while futures ended nearly flat and no significant change in the prices of the commodity is expected in near term as its demand from export front is slow. Local consumption demand is also very thin presently. As per the trade analysts, until Chinese demand gains, prices of cumin seed will remain steady/lower.

Coriander seed

Coriander prices were mixed last week in the physical markets as per the demand and supply of the commodity in the particular trading centres while futures ended over 2% lower at the local bourse and prices of coriander are likely to remain range-bound this week. The arrivals of the commodity are likely to remain week as the farmers are now busy in kharif crop cultivations which will support its prices while the stockiest are buying as per their short-term demand, which will limit the upsides.

Turmeric

Turmeric prices were mostly down in the physical markets and futures as well last week amid slow demand while supply is regularly seen. Most of the buyers are staying away, that’s why demand is weak and this trend may persist next week. The market is expected fresh demand at current level.
