New Delhi, August 16 (Commoditiescontrol) Wheat prices were firm in the major markets of producing states and consumption centres as well on Tuesday.
Prices of wheat rose Rs 25-50 per quintal in most of the markets today as the flour millers raised their demand while availability of wheat in the markets were low. Wheat prices increased as demand exceeded supply, a trader said. After four consecutive days of holidays, the availability of wheat in the physical markets decreased while requirements of flour millers increased.
Meanwhile, govt is likely to remove a 40% duty on the import of wheat in a bid to increase the supply as south Indian buyers are exploring opportunity of sourcing wheat from overseas market. However, trade analysts are of the views that since, wheat prices are considerably high in the global market, there is little chance of its imports at current level.
