Burma Urad trade weak at Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai; Mills buying stay thin

Mumbai, 27 Sep (Commoditiescontrol): Prices of Burma Urad remained weak at Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai markets amid thin mills buying as offtake in Urad dal witnessed dull, traders said. Also, regular overseas supplies at Chennai port added pressure.

As per local source, around 312 containers (each container =24 MT) 7,488 MT Urad arrived at Chennai port between Sep 15-21, 2022.This is despite Rupee's depreciation against USD to 81.54. Stronger greenback makes imports costlier for non-dollar buyers.

In local markets, arrivals are picking pace. Madhya Pradesh markets were shut for last 3 days. As the markets opened here today, the arrivals was seen picking up slowly. They reported arrivals of average quality produce containing moisture.

Lalitpur line new Urad traded at Rs 7,150-7,200/100Kg for Vijaywada delivery. At Lalitpur market prices have firmed up by Rs 100/100Kg despite increased arrivals due to clear weather today. Raipur-Tamil Nadu Millers remain active. The market yard received produce with moisture contain of 15-18%. Arrival of 15000 Katta of Urad reprted and was offered in the range of Rs 4500/6500 per quintal.

At Latur, new Urad arrivals contain moisture 15-20% due to alternate day rain was reported. Regular mill buying was witnessed here.At Rajkot market, new Urad price remained steady at Rs 4000-7500/100kg. Arrivals increased to 1200 bags and was containing 15-17% moisture. Local mills were actively buying.

As per local sources, traders-millers were active in purchasing new Kharif Urad as the pipeline is empty and also demand from papad manufacturing units is expected in coming days for the Diwali festival.Polish-unpolish Urad price remained weak by Rs 50 each at Rs 8,150/100Kg and Rs 7,950, respectively in Guntur markets of Andhra Pradesh on thin mills trade activity. While, Urad gota variety ruled flat at Rs 101,00/100Kg.

At Burma, Urad FAQ-SQ varieties quoted firm each by $5 at $865 & $1005 per metric ton on CNF basis for Mumbai.For Chennai, Urad FAQ-SQ priced each at $850 & $995 per metric ton on CNF basis for October shipment. Meanwhile, local currency movement was strong at 3100 Kyat/dollar as compared to 3100-3200 Kyat/dollar during previous closing. Fluctuation of prices depend on currency movement.
