Mumbai, June 04, (Commodities Control): Peanut prices in Gujarat witnessed a decline of 5-10 rupees today, influenced by subdued trading activity and the anticipation of fresh arrivals. Market players in Gondal reported that approximately 15-20% of the old peanut stock remains unsold, while the arrival of new peanuts has commenced.
In Gondal, trading volumes ranged between 15,000-17,000 sacks (each weighing 35kg), with average quality peanuts fetching Rs. 1181-1351 per 20 kg and best quality peanuts trading at Rs. 1191-1421 per 20 kg. In Rajkot, 17,000 bags arrived, with prices ranging from Rs. 1100-1342 for average quality and Rs. 1100-1311 for best quality peanuts. Saurashtra witnessed the arrival of 10,000-12,000 bags of peanuts.
The arrival of new peanuts is on the rise in North Gujarat. In Himmatnagar, 4,000 bags were traded at Rs. 1160-1520, while Deesa recorded an arrival of 3,684 bags, with prices ranging from Rs. 1300-1425. Palanpur and Panthawada witnessed arrivals of 3,800 bags and 245 bags respectively, with prices ranging from Rs. 1025-1382 and Rs. 900-1306 per 20 kg respectively.
The anticipated arrival of Mainpuri peanuts from Uttar Pradesh in the coming 10-15 days is expected to further augment the supply of peanuts in the market. This, coupled with the existing stock and subdued demand, is likely to exert downward pressure on prices in the near future.
