MUMBAI, 13 July (Commoditiescontrol): The U.S. cotton crop is advancing ahead of its historical pace, although recent evaluations indicate a decline in crop condition compared to previous weeks.
As of July 7, 52% of the nation’s cotton acreage had reached the squaring stage. This marks an improvement of one percentage point over last year and two points ahead of the five-year average. Additionally, 19% of the cotton acreage had begun setting bolls, which is 4 percentage points higher than both last year and the five-year average.
Despite this accelerated progress, the condition of the cotton crop has deteriorated. On July 7, 45% of the 2024 cotton acreage was rated in good to excellent condition. This represents a decline of 5 percentage points from the previous week and 3 points below the same period last year.
The drop in crop condition ratings may be attributed to varying weather conditions and other environmental factors affecting key cotton-growing regions. As the growing season continues, farmers and analysts will closely monitor these conditions to mitigate potential impacts on yield and quality.
The cotton market will be watching these developments closely, as they could influence production forecasts and price movements in the coming weeks.
