Mumbai, August 2 (CommoditiesControl): Small cardamom prices displayed mixed trends in today’s market session. Prices fell in some centers while rising sharply in others. The fluctuations are attributed to relatively low arrivals and strong demand, with traders pointing to prolonged rainfall as a key factor behind the subdued trading activity.
The average price per kilogram ranged from Rs 2,190 to Rs 2,206, with the most expensive varieties fetching between Rs 2,758 and Rs 2,810 per kilogram. Despite weak demand causing price stability over the past 15-18 sessions, recent heavy rains are expected to bolster market sentiment, keeping prices within a range until September.
Arrivals saw a significant drop from 72,587 kg to 39,625 kg due to rainfall, while the offtake decreased from 71,320 kg to 38,911 kg. The offtake rate slightly fell to 98.2% from the previous session's 98.3%, supported by strong buying activity.
Grade-specific prices remained consistent across the fifth session. For 7 mm grades, prices ranged from Rs 2,080 to Rs 2,160 per kilogram; for 7-8 mm grades, between Rs 2,280 and Rs 2,360; and for grades 8 mm and above, between Rs 2,480 and Rs 2,660 per kilogram.
Overall, cardamom prices are expected to remain rangebound with a negative bias due to current low demand. However, the excessive rainfall in Kerala, which may lead to crop damage, is likely to provide some support to prices.
