Mumbai, August 05 (CommoditiesControl): Chili prices showed a mixed trend, with some varieties decreasing by Rs 5-15 per kg, while others saw a rise of Rs 5 per kg. Khammam reported a weak sentiment, and Warangal experienced mixed prices, with Teja chili prices increasing by Rs 5 per kg. Prices have been trading within a narrow range over the past 2-3 weeks. Sources attribute the price stability to uncertainty regarding acreage, despite good stocks in cold storage and lower export inquiries.

Today's chili arrivals were reported at 101,000 bags, an increase of 26,000 bags from the previous session, primarily due to higher arrivals in Guntur. Guntur alone reported 85,000 bags, up by 25,000 bags from the previous session. Khammam reported the arrival of 10,000 bags, while Warangal received 6,000 bags, an increase of 1,000 bags.

In terms of acreage, seed sales are reported to be around 10% lower year-on-year. Many dealers have returned unsold seeds, and initial updates suggest a potential decrease in ground acreage by 25-30%. Heavy rains across major chili-growing regions have adversely affected crops in low-lying areas.

The demand for non-vegetarian foods is expected to remain low until the end of Shravan, which may keep chili prices stable in the coming months. However, the heavy rains in key regions are anticipated to reduce acreage and potentially increase prices. Demand is expected to rise in September.
