Australia's Lentil Exports Surge in June 2024 Amid Tightening Domestic Stocks

Mumbai, 05 Aug (Commoditiescontrol): According to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australia exported 140,549 tonnes of lentils (Masoor) in June 2024, reflecting an 8% increase from May's export volume of 130,295 tonnes.

However, the momentum of bulk lentil shipments has begun to slow in July. This deceleration is largely due to dwindling Australian stocks and the influx of new-crop supplies from Canada entering the global market.

Australia's lentil crop conditions have become less favorable, particularly in regions of South Australia and Victoria. The outlook for average yields is now heavily dependent on timely rainfall in the coming weeks.

In June, India emerged as the largest importer of Australian lentils, purchasing 57,244 tonnes. Bangladesh followed with 44,920 tonnes, and Egypt imported 11,346 tonnes. Other significant importers included Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the UAE.

For the second quarter of 2024, Australia's total lentil exports reached 383,446 tonnes, with monthly figures of 112,602 tonnes in April, 130,295 tonnes in May, and 140,549 tonnes in June.
