Mumbai, August 05 (CommoditiesControl): Today's trading session for small cardamoms yielded mixed results. While prices fell in some areas, they remained steady in others. Overall, prices were reported to be weaker on dull buying despite lower arrivals.
The average cost per kilogram ranged between Rs 2,206-2,277, slightly down from Rs 2,207-2,264 in the previous session. The maximum price per kilogram dropped from Rs 2,810 to Rs 2,689. Over the past 15-18 sessions, prices have been stable to weak due to low demand. However, the recent excess rains are expected to boost sentiment, and prices may remain rangebound until September.
Arrivals fell from 39,625 kg to 38,565 kg due to the lower prices. Increased rainfall activity is reducing arrivals in the major markets. The offtake fell to 37,388 kg from 38,911 kg, and the offtake rate dropped to 96.1% from 98.2% in the previous session, owing to low buying activity despite lower offers.
Grade-specific rates remained consistent for the fifth consecutive session. Prices per kilogram for grades 7 mm ranged between Rs 2,080 and Rs 2,160; for grades 7-8 mm, between Rs 2,280 and Rs 2,360; and for grades 8 mm and higher, between Rs 2,480 and Rs 2,660.
Cardamom prices are expected to remain rangebound, with a downward bias due to low demand. However, excessive rainfall in Kerala is likely to cause crop damage, potentially boosting prices to some extent.
