Mumbai, August 06 (CommoditiesControl): Today's trading session for small cardamoms yielded mixed results, with prices decreasing in some areas and rising slightly in others. Despite lower arrivals, prices were reported to be lower due to dull buying activity.
The average cost per kilogram ranged between Rs 2,166 and Rs 2,258, compared to Rs 2,206 and Rs 2,237 in the previous session. The maximum price per kilogram increased from Rs 2,810 to Rs 3,078. Over the past 15-18 sessions, prices have remained stable to weak due to low demand. However, recent excess rains are expected to boost sentiment, potentially keeping prices rangebound until September.
Arrivals surged to 70,192 kg from 38,565 kg, driven by increased arrivals in Vandanametu. Offtake also rose from 38,911 kg to 68,932 kg. Despite the higher volume, the offtake rate improved from 96.1% to 98.2% due to heightened purchasing activity.
Grade-specific rates remained consistent for the fifth consecutive session. Prices per kilogram for 7 mm grades ranged from Rs 2,080 to Rs 2,160; for 7-8 mm grades, between Rs 2,280 and Rs 2,360; and for grades 8 mm and above, between Rs 2,480 and Rs 2,660.
Cardamom prices are expected to remain rangebound, with a slight downward trend due to low demand. Additionally, the upcoming harvesting season, expected to start next month, is likely to keep prices in check.
