Mumbai, August 07 (CommoditiesControl): In today’s auction, small cardamom prices in Kerala’s major markets showed stability to firmness. Prices remained steady at one center and saw a slight increase at another, attributed to strong buying despite the rise in arrivals.
The average cost per kilogram ranged between Rs 2,252 and Rs 2,275, compared to Rs 2,166 and Rs 2,258 in the previous session. However, the maximum price per kilogram fell to Rs 2,600 from Rs 3,078 previously. Over the past 18-20 sessions, prices have been stable to weak, ranging between Rs 2,150 and Rs 2,300 per kilogram due to low demand.
Arrivals increased from 70,192 kg to 73,317 kg, mainly due to higher arrivals in Nedumkandum. The offtake also grew to 69,176 kg from 68,932 kg. Despite this increase, the offtake rate decreased to 94.3% from 98.2% due to the strong demand. Around 20% of the total arrivals were sourced from dealers.
Grade-specific rates remained consistent throughout the fifth session. For grades of 7 mm, prices ranged between Rs 2,080 and Rs 2,160 per kilogram. For grades between 7-8 mm, prices ranged from Rs 2,280 to Rs 2,360 per kilogram, while for grades of 8 mm and above, prices were between Rs 2,480 and Rs 2,660 per kilogram.
Cardamom prices are expected to remain within a range, with a downward trend anticipated due to low demand. The onset of the harvesting season next month is likely to help stabilize prices.
