Mumbai, August 9 (Commodities Control): Chili prices displayed mixed trends on Friday, with variations observed across different markets. While Guntur reported a slight decline in the prices of certain varieties, Khammam saw an uptick due to active buying.
In Guntur, the price of the Teja variety decreased by Rs 5 per kg, attributed to the average quality of the arrivals. In contrast, Khammam experienced an increase in chili prices, driven by strong buying activity. Despite daily fluctuations, prices for Teja and Teja Deluxe varieties have remained in the Rs 16,500-18,500 per quintal range over the past month. Sufficient warehouse stocks have been a factor in keeping prices down, although the anticipated reduction in acreage could provide some price support. However, recent instability in Bangladesh, a major chili importer, is likely to have a negative impact on trade.
Total chili arrivals were reported at 69,000 bags, a decrease of 10,000 bags from the previous session. Guntur accounted for 55,000 bags, down by 10,000 bags, while Khammam reported 8,000 bags, and Warangal 6,000 bags, with both centers maintaining stable arrival numbers. Most of these arrivals were sourced from cold storage.
Looking ahead, demand is expected to remain low during the Shravan season, which could keep prices stable to weak in the coming days. Additionally, the ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh may continue to exert downward pressure on chili prices.
