Mumbai, 09 Sep (Commoditiescontrol): The competitiveness of Indonesian palm oil is under threat, as falling sunflower oil prices shift global market preferences, according to Eddy Martono, Chairman of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI).

During a recent book launch, Martono highlighted the anomaly where palm oil, despite its superior yield of 4 tons per hectare compared to 0.7 for rapeseed, is priced lower than its agricultural counterparts in significant markets, including China.

Martono called for immediate regulatory reforms and the establishment of a dedicated agency to reinforce the palm oil sector’s competitive edge globally. He warned that without proactive measures, Indonesia’s position in the international palm oil market could deteriorate further.
