Mumbai, September 9 (CommoditiesControl): Prices for small cardamom have shown signs of weakening, declining by Rs 20-50 per kilogram. This drop is attributed to a significant increase in arrivals. Over the last 20-22 trading sessions, cardamom prices have largely stabilized between Rs 2,150 and Rs 2,300 per kilogram, with only minor fluctuations.
Today, the average price of small cardamom ranged between Rs 2,172 and Rs 2,217 per kilogram, down from Rs 2,235 to Rs 2,238 reported yesterday. The highest price per kilogram also saw a notable decrease, dropping to Rs 2,645 from Rs 2,910 in the previous session.
The volume of arrivals has been substantial, with today's figures reaching 117,183 kilograms, a rise from 107,265 kilograms in the previous session. Offtake has also increased, moving from 102,352 kilograms to 111,613 kilograms. Despite this, the offtake rate experienced a slight decline from 95.4% to 95.2%, attributed to lower demand. Dealers currently account for approximately 18.4% of the market.
In terms of grade-specific pricing, the second session focused on maintaining consistent rates. Prices for grades 7 mm are between Rs 2,150 and Rs 2,220 per kilogram, grades 7-8 mm range from Rs 2,360 to Rs 2,440, and grades 8 mm or higher are priced between Rs 2,600 and Rs 2,720 per kilogram.
Looking ahead, prices are anticipated to remain low. With the onset of the harvesting season, arrivals are expected to rise further, which, coupled with the availability of last year's stocks, is likely to keep prices under control.
