Mumbai, September 10 (Commodities Control): Small cardamom prices have continued to decline, with reductions of Rs 20-50 per kilogram attributed to increased arrivals. For the past 20-22 sessions, prices have generally stayed within the range of Rs 2,150 to Rs 2,300 per kilogram. However, there is a higher likelihood that this range may be breached in the next 3-4 sessions.
Today, the average price for small cardamom was reported at Rs 2,151-2,153 per kilogram, a decrease from Rs 2,172-2,217 per kilogram the previous day. The highest price per kilogram also fell from Rs 2,688 to Rs 2,645.
Arrivals today totaled 79,664 kilograms, a significant drop from 117,183 kilograms in the previous session. Offtake also decreased to 73,176 kilograms from 111,613 kilograms, resulting in an off-take rate of 91.8% compared to 95.2% previously. Dealers currently hold about 20.3% of the stock.
The market focused on grade-specific rates, with prices for grades varying by size. For 7 mm grades, prices range from Rs 2,150 to Rs 2,220 per kilogram; for 7-8 mm grades, prices range from Rs 2,360 to Rs 2,440 per kilogram; and for grades 8 mm or higher, prices are between Rs 2,600 and Rs 2,720 per kilogram.
Looking ahead, prices are expected to remain low as the harvest season progresses. Increased arrivals are anticipated to keep prices under pressure, and reports suggest that there are still farmer stocks from last year, which should further help in controlling prices.
