Mumbai, September 11 (CommoditiesControl): Chilly prices have experienced a mostly firm sentiment across major markets, with notable exceptions. In key trading centers like Guntur and Warangal, prices have risen by Rs 5-7 per kilogram. However, in Khammam, prices for the Teja variety fell by Rs 5 per kilogram following a recent price spike when the market reopened after a few days of closure.
Over the past two and a half months, chilly prices have consistently ranged between Rs 155 and Rs 185 per kilogram. Khammam's prices are also in this range, reflecting today's Rs 5 per kilogram drop. Traders report that warehouses are nearing full capacity, but a significant reduction in acreage is anticipated, contributing to the wide price range.
Weather conditions have been mixed recently, with minimal rainfall over the last two days in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh—key chilly-growing regions. The forecast for the coming week suggests drier weather, which could aid crop recovery after recent heavy rains.
Arrivals of chilly have surged to an estimated 77,000 bags today, a notable increase from 7,000 bags the previous day. Guntur saw a rise of 5,000 bags, totaling 60,000 bags. Warangal and Khammam each reported increases of 1,000 bags from the day before, with current totals of 8,000 and 9,000 bags, respectively.
Given the increase in demand and the current market dynamics, including concerns about acreage and crop conditions, chilly prices are expected to remain positive in the coming days. Traders and stockists are bolstered by recent weather patterns, which should support prices despite fluctuations.
