MUMBAI, 11 Sep (Commoditiescontrol): Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to farmers on Wednesday, emphasizing that agriculture and farmers' welfare remain a top priority for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chouhan compared serving farmers to a sacred duty, saying, “For us, serving farmers is like worshipping God.”
Addressing recent concerns among farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Chouhan acknowledged that soybean prices had fallen below the Minimum Support Price (MSP), causing distress. He noted that states like Maharashtra and Karnataka had already been authorized to purchase soybean at MSP.
On Tuesday, Chouhan took swift action by issuing an order for Madhya Pradesh to start purchasing soybean at MSP. Shortly after, the Madhya Pradesh government submitted a proposal to procure soybean at MSP to the central government. The proposal was promptly approved by the Union government the following morning.
Chouhan reassured the farmers of Madhya Pradesh, stating, "There is no need to worry. Soybean will be bought at MSP rates, and farmers will be fully compensated for their hard work."
