Mumbai, September 13 (CommoditiesControl): Small cardamom prices saw an uptick today, climbing by Rs 20-60 per kilogram after several sessions of weak to stable trading. For the past month and a half, prices have hovered between Rs 2,150 and Rs 2,300 per kilogram, with recent quotes leaning towards the lower end of this range. Market predictions suggest that prices might breach this range downward over the next 3-4 sessions.
Today's average price ranged between Rs 2,178 and Rs 2,229 per kilogram, an increase from yesterday's range of Rs 2,157 to Rs 2,173. The highest price recorded was Rs 2,561 per kilogram, up from Rs 2,929 in the previous session.
Arrivals surged again today, surpassing 100,000 kilograms as harvesting season progresses. Today's arrivals totaled 112,604 kg, a significant rise from the 69,253 kg reported in the previous session. Offtake also increased to 97,943 kg from 64,982 kg, though the offtake percentage fell to 86.9% from the previous session’s 93.8%, due to decreased demand. Dealers currently account for about 28.7% of the market.
Grade-specific prices have remained steady over the past 8-10 sessions, with no major fluctuations in bulk prices. Current rates are: Rs 2,150 to Rs 2,220 per kilogram for 7 mm grades, Rs 2,360 to Rs 2,440 for 7-8 mm grades, and Rs 2,600 to Rs 2,720 for grades of 8 mm or higher.
Looking ahead, prices are expected to remain under pressure. As harvesting continues, an increase in arrivals is anticipated, which, coupled with stocks from the previous year, is likely to keep prices subdued in the near future.
