Kabuli Chana Prices Plummet Amid Weak Demand, Centre Govt to Probe Artificial Price Hike

INDORE, 14 Sep (Commoditiescontrol): The Kabuli chana market is experiencing a significant decline in demand, with both domestic consumption and export orders slowing down. This, coupled with the arrival of low and medium-quality chana, has led to a price drop. On Saturday, prices fell by ₹400 per quintal in container trade, though auction prices showed a slight rise.

Indore-based traders have expressed concerns about artificial price inflation. Following their complaints to the central government, officials summoned the traders to Delhi for discussions on December 13. After the meeting, traders revealed that the government is planning to form an investigative committee to probe the issue.

In addition to government engagement, traders from Indore have sought support from Congress leader Kapil Sibal, urging him to file a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court regarding Kabuli chana trading practices.

Meanwhile, in Madhya Pradesh, the supply of Kabuli chana has remained stable at around 2,000 bags. On Saturday, Indore’s Krishi Mandi recorded an arrival of 600 quintals, with auction prices ranging from ₹9,300 to ₹14,465 per quintal. Premium Kabuli chana prices were at ₹17,100 per quintal.
