Mumbai, 16 Sep 2024 (Commoditiescontrol): Masur (lentil) market across major Indian mandis displayed a largely stable performance, with prices holding firm for most domestic varieties, while imported Masur varieties witnessed minor declines. The trend suggests a well-balanced supply-demand situation in the domestic market, while imported varieties experienced some pressure. Mills are involved in need-based buying.
In the Masur Mandi Prices segment, domestic varieties such as Desi Masur saw no significant changes across key trading centers. Markets like Lalitpur, Jabalpur, Ashoknagar, Ganjbasoda, Beena, Sagar, and Kareli reported steady prices. In Lalitpur, for example, Desi Masur was traded within the range of ₹5,500-₹5,850 per 100 kg, and similar stability was seen across other mandis.
In the All Expenses Paid (Bilty) category, the market remained similarly stable. For example, in Delhi, the Madhya Pradesh line was quoted at ₹6,575 per 100 kg. In Indore, Desi Masur was traded at ₹5,975-₹6,000 per 100 kg, indicating no major price fluctuations. Markets like Bareilly and Behraich also saw steady prices, with Bareilly Moti trading between ₹6,650-₹6,675, and Choti priced at ₹7,200 per 100 kg.
While domestic prices remained firm, the market for imported Masur varieties experienced a slight decline in select regions. In Mumbai, Canada-origin Masur from Mundra Port saw a price drop of ₹50, now trading at ₹5,900 per 100 kg. Similarly, Canada Crimson Container and Australia Nugget Container prices declined by ₹50, settling at ₹6,050 per 100 kg.
In the Split Lentil (Masoor Dal) segment, prices remained unchanged in both Mumbai and Katni. In Mumbai, split lentils traded between ₹7,250-₹7,450 per 100 kg, while in Katni, prices were steady at ₹7,075-₹7,500 per 100 kg.
Masur prices are expected to remain steady to weak in the coming days, as the pace of imports is anticipated to increase in the coming weeks. Furthermore, the landed cost of new imports is expected to be lower than the prevailing spot prices of imported masur. Additionally, declining prices of Tur should keep masur prices under pressure.
