Mumbai, 16 Sep 2024 (Commoditiescontrol): Moong prices held steady on Monday, reflecting limited trading activity across major markets. Most trade centers reported stable pricing, though a few saw fluctuations based on local market trends. Markets in Jalgaon and Jaipur showed firmness, while Bider registered a decline.
Karnataka, a key producing state, saw no arrivals on Monday. In the previous session, prices had dipped due to pressure from new crop arrivals. Despite the recent rise in moong prices due to higher demand ahead of upcoming festivals, processed moong dal prices remained largely unchanged across markets.
In Madhya Pradesh, trade was also steady, with many centers closed for business. At Indore, Desi moong prices remained unchanged, trading between ₹8,000 and ₹8,350 per quintal. Markets in Harda, Narsinghpur, Pipriya, and Khirkiya provided no quotes.
Rajasthan, particularly the Jaipur mandi, saw a modest increase of ₹50 per quintal, while other markets reported minimal price changes. Many markets remained closed.
The weather continues to pose challenges, particularly in Central Karnataka, where harvesting is nearing completion. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rain alerts for Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, and parts of Central India, sparking concerns over potential supply disruptions.
In Maharashtra, around 3,350 bags of moong with moisture content between 16-21% arrived, with prices ranging from ₹6,800 to ₹8,800 per quintal. Buying activity remained inconsistent.
Moong sowing for the Kharif season has increased by 4%, covering 35.06 lakh hectares as of September 6, 2024. Despite current strong price trends, the anticipated arrival of Kharif crops and a planned auction of approximately 385,000 tons by MARKFED may place downward pressure on prices in the coming weeks.
