Mumbai, 01 Oct (Commoditiescontrol):Tamil Nadu has received 38.9 cm of rainfall during the Southwest monsoon, marking an 18% surplus for the season, which officially ended on September 30. While the monsoon is tapering off, wet weather is expected to continue across the state until early October, with heavy showers anticipated until October 4.
Rainfall from October 1 onwards will be attributed to the Northeast monsoon. A trough from the Comorin region to coastal Karnataka is expected to cause scattered rainfall, with heavy downpours forecast in select areas of nine districts, including Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, and the Nilgiris.
Most districts experienced either surplus or normal rainfall, except for six. Tirunelveli recorded the highest seasonal total at 33.7 cm, well above its average of 9.2 cm. Chennai also saw surplus rainfall, with Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam logging significant increases over their seasonal norms.
Light to moderate rain is likely to continue in parts of Chennai until mid-week. The Northeast monsoon is expected to bring normal rainfall across the state, with a possible deviation of up to 10%.
