Moong Prices Remain Steady Amid Dull Trade, Festival Demand Offers Support

Mumbai, 04 Oct 2024 (Commoditiescontrol): Moong (green gram) prices saw minimal movement on Friday, mirroring the previous session’s trend as dull trading and fresh crop arrivals kept the market balanced. Although the volume of new crop arrivals is increasing, it hasn't been enough to significantly push prices downward. The ongoing Navratri festival is also contributing to the sluggish market activity.

In Karnataka, arrivals were lower, while Maharashtra and Rajasthan reported steady inflows. Farmers are continuing to prefer selling through government procurement channels, with mandi prices still below the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Anticipated demand for the upcoming festival season is helping provide price stability.

In Delhi, moong from Madhya Pradesh held its ground, while the Rajkot Desi variety from Gujarat traded between ₹5,000 and ₹8,200 per quintal. Maharashtra saw around 1,600 bags of moong arriving with moisture levels ranging from 16% to 21%, though prices in Latur remained unchanged. No quotes were available for the Desi variety from Jalgaon.

Markets in Madhya Pradesh, including Indore and Narsinghpur, exhibited stability after a holiday, while Rajasthan’s Kekri market held firm. Karnataka's Gadag market saw gains, but Bidar experienced slight declines. Some markets, such as Bagalkot and Sedam, did not report quotes.

Looking ahead, moong prices are expected to remain stable during Navratri, with potential downward pressure expected by mid-October as arrivals increase post-Dussehra. Government sales of old moong stocks may also weigh on prices, especially for lower-grade moong, while premium-grade prices may remain supported.
