MUMBAI, 5 Oct (Commoditiescontrol): Peanut traders in Saurashtra and North Gujarat are facing challenges due to the high moisture content in arrivals, dampening demand for non-dry produce. On Monday, prices for dry-quality peanuts increased by ₹10-15 per 20 kg, while moisture-laden peanuts saw a price decline of ₹5-10. Current arrivals show moisture levels ranging from 8-15%, causing traders to hesitate on purchases. Additionally, the anticipation of a bumper peanut harvest this year has led many traders to avoid hasty buying decisions.

Today, Saurashtra and Gujarat witnessed over 60,000 bags of peanut arrivals. Gondal Mandi saw a substantial inflow of 22,000-23,000 bags, with trade activity reaching 24,525 bags. Average-quality peanuts were priced between ₹1,171 and ₹1,461 per 20 kg, while top-quality varieties fetched between ₹1,091 and ₹1,211 per 20 kg.

In Rajkot Mandi, 13,000 bags of peanuts were received, with prices for average-quality varieties ranging between ₹1,000 and ₹1,400 per 20 kg, and best-quality peanuts trading at ₹900 to ₹1,180 per 20 kg. Across Saurashtra, overall arrivals were recorded at 40,000-45,000 bags.

In North Gujarat, arrivals continued to rise, though demand remained tepid, keeping prices largely unchanged. In Deesa Mandi, 3,650 bags of new peanuts arrived, with 37-number peanuts trading between ₹1,051 and ₹1,351 per 20 kg, and 24-number peanuts priced at ₹1,251 to ₹1,451 per 20 kg.

Palanpur Mandi saw 925 bags of new peanuts, with 37-number peanuts trading at ₹951-1,275 per 20 kg, and 24-number peanuts at ₹1,225-1,424 per 20 kg. In Panthawada Mandi, 6,620 bags arrived, with the 37-number variety fetching ₹1,080-1,350 per 20 kg, and the 24-number variety priced between ₹1,200 and ₹1,442 per 20 kg.

With ongoing high moisture levels in peanuts and expectations of a large harvest, traders are adopting a cautious approach. Demand for dry-quality peanuts is expected to rise, but the market remains watchful for further developments in the coming days.
