Chili Prices Steady Amid Mixed Market Conditions; Warangal Sees Decline

Mumbai, October 07 (CommoditiesControl): Chili prices across major markets have remained mostly stable, with notable stability in Guntur and Khammam. However, Warangal experienced a slight downtrend, with prices falling by Rs 9-10 per kg due to increased arrivals and sluggish buying activity.

Sources indicate that ample stocks in warehouses, combined with weak export demand, are maintaining prices within a broad range, despite lower acreage and some crop damage. Teja chili prices have consistently ranged between Rs 155 and Rs 185 per kilogram for the past three and a half months.

Today, total arrivals reached 108,000 bags, which is 28,000 more than the previous session, largely attributed to higher arrivals in Guntur, where 90,000 bags were reported—an increase of 30,000 bags from the last session. Khammam and Warangal contributed 8,000 and 10,000 bags, respectively, resulting in a slight overall decrease of 2,000 bags from the prior session. Despite being the off-season, arrivals have remained steady between 80,000 and 120,000 bags.

Harvesting has commenced in Madhya Pradesh’s chili-growing regions, with small arrivals beginning last week and expected to increase as dry weather conditions are forecasted. The weather across major growing states has been dry over the past two weeks, which should positively impact crop development.

Given the sufficient stocks and lackluster inquiries from exporters, prices are expected to remain stable within the broad range. After initial inquiries, export demand has reportedly dulled again, indicating that high stock levels are likely to curb significant price increases. Meanwhile, reduced acreage and crop damage may prevent aggressive price declines in the near future.
