Mumbai, October 8 (Commodities Control): Chili prices across major markets are currently stable in Guntur and Khammam, while Warangal has seen a recovery of Rs 5-10 per kilogram following a decline in the previous session. This rebound is attributed to reduced arrivals and strong buying interest. Despite lower acreage and crop damage, sufficient warehouse stocks and weak export demand are keeping prices within a broad range. Over the past three and a half months, Teja chili prices have ranged between Rs 155 and Rs 185 per kilogram.
Today, total arrivals were reported at 101,000 bags, a decrease of 7,000 bags compared to the previous session, largely due to lower arrivals across the markets. Guntur accounted for 85,000 bags, down by 5,000 from last session, while Khammam and Warangal each received 8,000 bags, contributing to an overall decline of 2,000 bags.
In Madhya Pradesh, where harvesting has commenced in chili-growing regions, arrivals have started to increase following last week’s small quantities. With dry weather conditions expected, further arrivals are anticipated. Yesterday, Bedia markets reported around 4,000 bags, benefiting from the dry weather prevalent in major growing areas, which should support crop development.
Given the adequate stock levels and lackluster inquiries from exporters, prices are expected to remain within a broad range. After a brief spike in inquiries, reports indicate that interest from exporters has cooled again. While higher stockpiles are likely to cap price increases, factors such as reduced acreage and crop damage are expected to provide some support to market prices.
