Mumbai, October 09 (CommoditiesControl): Chili prices have shown stability in Guntur and Khammam, while experiencing a decline in Warangal. For the second consecutive session, Guntur and Khammam markets have maintained steady prices, whereas Warangal has reported a decrease of Rs 8-15 per kg. This drop is attributed to reduced arrivals and robust purchasing activity.
Market sources indicate that sufficient warehouse inventories and subdued export demand are helping to stabilize prices, despite challenges such as reduced acreage and crop damage. Over the past three and a half months, Teja chili prices have ranged from Rs 155 to Rs 185 per kilogram.
Today’s total arrivals reached 80,000 bags, a decline of 21,000 bags compared to the previous session. Guntur alone accounted for 65,000 bags, down 20,000 from the last session. Khammam reported 9,000 bags, while Warangal saw 6,000 bags, reflecting a slight overall decrease of 1,000 bags in arrivals.
Despite the off-season, arrivals have consistently ranged between 80,000 and 120,000 bags, contributing to ongoing price stability. Harvesting has begun in the cooler agricultural regions of Madhya Pradesh, with initial arrivals reported last week. With forecasts of dry weather, further increases in arrivals are expected.
The dry conditions in major chili-growing states over the past two weeks are likely to enhance crop development. Reports confirm that the chilly-growing regions in Madhya Pradesh are currently experiencing favorable dry weather, which is anticipated to boost future arrivals.
Given the ample inventory and lackluster demand from exporters, prices are expected to remain within a wide range. Although recent inquiries from exporters have been weak, increased stockpiles may constrain significant price rises. However, the combination of reduced acreage and crop damage is expected to provide some upward support for prices in the near term.
