Mumbai, 26 Oct 2024 (Commoditiescontrol): Israel conducted targeted airstrikes on military sites in Iran early Saturday, escalating tensions between the two nations. The strikes, reportedly aimed at Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) facilities, followed Iran’s October 1 missile barrage, where around 200 missiles were fired at Israel, most of which were intercepted.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had vowed retaliation, citing Israel's "right and duty" to defend against aggression. Sources confirmed that Israel notified the US in advance, though no US military involvement occurred.
Iran's missile attack was in response to Israel's recent operations against Hezbollah, Tehran's key proxy in Lebanon. Last month, Israel assassinated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, following a series of airstrikes targeting the group's commanders.
The conflict traces back to October last year when Iran-backed Hamas launched a deadly raid into southern Israel, triggering a prolonged conflict that has since claimed over 42,000 lives in Gaza, according to local health officials.
