New Delhi, October 29 (Commodities Control): Chili prices in the primary markets of Guntur and Khammam have displayed a mixed trend due to heightened arrivals, surpassing last season's levels. Current stock levels in warehouses have contributed to this influx, leading to a decline of Rs 5 per kilogram across most varieties. However, Warangal experienced an increase in prices, ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 10 per kg.
Specifically, prices for the Teja variety have fallen below the previously observed range of Rs 155 to Rs 185 per kilogram, primarily due to increased arrivals coupled with sluggish demand. Local sources indicate that, despite a reduction in acreage, adequate warehouse stocks are helping to stabilize prices.
Today, the total arrivals reached 96,000 bags, down by 19,000 bags from the previous session. Guntur recorded 80,000 bags, reflecting a decline of 10,000 bags. Meanwhile, both Warangal and Khammam reported 8,000 bags each, a decrease of 9,000 bags compared to the last session.
The rise in inventories and reduced demand from exporters are likely to keep prices within a broader spectrum, with a tendency toward a downward trend in the near future. Additionally, harvesting is expected to commence around mid-November, which may further exert downward pressure on prices.
