Mumbai, October 29 (Commodities Control): Small cardamom prices have seen a slight recovery, driven by high demand amidst decreased arrivals. Today's auction took place at a single center, reflecting ongoing supply constraints due to weather anomalies and landslides, resulting in prices significantly higher than last season.
Current auction data reveals an average price of Rs 2,337 per kilogram, a modest increase from the previous session’s averages of Rs 2,283 and Rs 2,308. However, the maximum price per kilogram has decreased from Rs 2,756 to Rs 2,588.
Arrivals totaled 60,030 kg, down from 107,859 kg in the previous session. Offtake also declined to 59,822 kg, from 107,405 kg, as auction volume decreased. Notably, the off-take rate was 99.7% this session, slightly up from 99.6% last season, indicating robust demand with rates consistently exceeding 99% over the past 12 to 15 sessions.
Grade-specific prices have remained stable over the past week, with 7 mm grades priced between Rs 2,140 and Rs 2,180 per kg. Grades measuring 7-8 mm range from Rs 2,340 to Rs 2,440, while those over 8 mm are priced between Rs 2,600 and Rs 2,760.
Prices have fluctuated within a narrow range over the last five to six sessions after recovering from previous lows. In the short term, prices are expected to stabilize between Rs 2,200 and Rs 2,350 per kg. As the initial picking phase concludes and with demand anticipated to decline post-Diwali, prices may trend towards the lower end of this range.
