Mumbai, 04 Nov (Commoditiescontrol): Burma Urad (black gram) prices declined in both Burma and Indian markets as trading resumed after the Diwali holiday with subdued activity. In Burma, local markets saw a slight dip for both domestic and CNF India trades, with minimal participation from Indian buyers on the first day back. Similarly, Indian domestic markets observed weaker Burma Urad prices, mirroring the trend in Burma and reflecting reduced post-holiday trading.
For Desi Urad, prices remained steady with limited transactions, as some markets have yet to fully reopen.
In Burma, FAQ Urad held steady at 3,700,000 Kyat, while SQ fell by 35,000 Kyat to 4,100,000 Kyat, reflecting a sluggish stockist presence. CNF India prices also dropped by $10 per metric ton due to reduced interest from Indian traders.
In Chennai, market activity was muted following the Diwali break, and resale CNF quotes remained unchanged on Monday amid limited trade activity. in local trade prices for Burma Urad showed a steady-to-weak trend, with FAQ down by ₹25 to ₹8,450 per quintal and SQ slipping ₹25 to ₹9,275 per quintal. Delhi saw declines of ₹75-100, with FAQ and SQ trading at ₹8,750 and ₹9,275 per quintal, respectively. Minor declines were recorded in Mumbai, while prices in Kolkata remained stable.
In the domestic bilty trade, stability was observed across Guntur, Vijayawada, and Chandausi, with key mandis showing steady prices, supported by consistent demand for polished Urad dal in Mumbai.
India imported 93,732 metric tons of whole Urad in September 2024, primarily from Myanmar (75,674 metric tons), with additional imports from Brazil totaling 7,483 metric tons.
Looking ahead, Urad prices are expected to maintain a firm-to-steady outlook, as domestic arrivals slow and imports from Burma decline. Additionally, anticipated lower kharif crop yields and wedding season demand are expected to bolster prices in the near term.
