Mumbai, November 4 (Commodities Control): Small cardamom prices are seeing a modest recovery as arrivals sharply decrease due to severe crop damage. Recent auction data shows that arrivals, previously averaging over 1.0 lakh kilograms, have declined to about 65,000 kilograms over the past few sessions.
Currently, cardamom prices range from ₹2,337 to ₹2,393 per kilogram, reflecting a slight increase from the previous session’s averages of ₹2,337 per kilogram. The maximum price per kilogram rose marginally, reaching ₹2,590 from ₹2,588 in the last session.
In the most recent auction, arrivals totaled 64,337 kilograms, slightly up from 60,030 kilograms in the previous session but still significantly lower than earlier levels. Offtake also increased, reaching 63,178 kilograms from the previous 59,822 kilograms, thanks to a larger auction volume. The offtake rate stood at 98.2%, slightly down from 99.7% last season.
Grade-specific rates have held steady, with prices per kilogram for 7 mm grades ranging between ₹2,140 and ₹2,180. Grades measuring 7-8 mm are priced between ₹2,340 and ₹2,440, while 8 mm grades or larger are selling at ₹2,600 to ₹2,760 per kilogram.
After rebounding from previous lows, prices have remained in a narrow range over the past 10-12 sessions. As the holiday season winds down and demand decreases, a short-term price correction is anticipated. However, with the first picking completed earlier than usual, experts predict prices will hold steady in the range of ₹2,200 to ₹2,350 per kilogram in the near term.
