Mumbai, November 4 (Commodities Control): Pepper prices in Kerala and Karnataka remained stable today after last week's modest increase. Demand, however, was sluggish, suggesting possible downward pressure on prices in the near term. Abundant supply from imports, including new shipments from Sri Lanka, is contributing to the stable price environment, as reported by local traders.

In Cochin, ungarbled pepper is priced at ₹63,400 per quintal, while garbled pepper is at ₹65,400. Pepper grade 500 GL is priced at ₹62,400. In Karnataka, prices range from ₹63,200 to ₹65,500 per quintal, depending on the region. Farmers report favorable domestic crop conditions, with expectations of a good harvest this season.

In Vietnam, pepper prices dropped by VND 5,000 per kilogram over the last few sessions, ranging from VND 140,000 to VND 141,000 per kilogram. Weak export demand from China and India has weighed on prices, and with Brazilian pepper now in the market, importers are shifting focus there, adding further pressure.

While festive demand offered a brief respite, the combination of oversupply and declining export demand from India is likely to push prices down in the coming sessions.
