Mumbai, 05 Nov (Commoditiescontrol): India’s Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has released the First Advance Estimates for the Kharif season of 2024-25, projecting a record food grain output of 1,647.05 lakh tonnes. This anticipated figure marks an 89.37 lakh tonne increase over the previous year’s Kharif production and exceeds the long-term average by 124.59 lakh tonnes, underscoring a robust agricultural season.

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan attributed this growth to government-led, farmer-centric policies and the dedication of both farmers and scientists across India. “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the government's consistent focus on agriculture has enabled steady progress,” he remarked.

2024-25 Kharif Production Highlights:

Rice: Expected to achieve a new peak at 1,199.34 lakh tonnes, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 66.75 lakh tonnes.

Maize: Forecasted at 245.41 lakh tonnes, setting an all-time production record.

Pulses: Total output projected at 69.54 lakh tonnes, with key contributions from:

Tur (Pigeon Pea): 35.02 lakh tonnes
Urad (Black Gram): 12.09 lakh tonnes
Moong (Green Gram): 13.83 lakh tonnes
Oilseeds: Production estimated at 257.45 lakh tonnes, with notable yields in groundnut (103.60 lakh tonnes) and soybean (133.60 lakh tonnes).

Commercial Crops:

Sugarcane: Expected production of 4,399.30 lakh tonnes.
Cotton: Estimated at 299.26 lakh bales (1 bale = 170 kg).
Jute & Mesta: Projected at 84.56 lakh bales (1 bale = 180 kg).

The estimates are derived from state-reported data, verified through advanced digital crop surveys, remote sensing, and weekly crop weather monitoring. For the first time, data from the Digital Crop Survey (DCS) has been incorporated, covering key states with comprehensive yield projections.
