Mumbai, November 8 (Commodities Control): Small cardamom prices have reached a four-month high and are holding steady, fueled by strong demand despite a significant drop in arrivals. The initial picking yields were notably lower due to last year’s severe weather impacts, including drought, landslides, floods, and heavy rainfall.

At today’s auction, the average price per kilogram stood at ₹2,495, up from the previous range of ₹2,477 to ₹2,503. However, the maximum price saw a slight dip, decreasing from ₹2,780 to ₹2,748 per kg.

Today’s auction, held at a single center, recorded a total auction volume of 50,302 kg—down from 105,796 kg in the previous session. Offtake totaled 50,090 kg, compared to 104,499 kg last session, reflecting the reduced auction volume. The offtake rate rose to 99.4% this session from 98.8% previously, highlighting sustained demand.

Grade-specific prices also showed stability after recent gains. Cardamom measuring 7 mm is priced between ₹2,250 and ₹2,300 per kg, while 7-8 mm grades range from ₹2,450 to ₹2,560 per kg. Premium 8 mm grades or larger are fetching between ₹2,760 and ₹2,880 per kg.

After trading within a narrow band over the past 10-12 sessions, prices have now broken through the upper range. Due to robust demand and limited supply, cardamom prices are expected to remain elevated in the near future.
