Mumbai, December 03 (CommoditiesControl): After experiencing a sharp decline, pepper prices in major markets across Kerala and Karnataka have rebounded, recovering Rs 1,500 per quintal from their recent lows. The increase in prices comes amid reports of an expected delay in the harvesting season, which is fueling both domestic and global market rallies.

In Kochi, ungarbled pepper is currently priced at Rs 63,500 per quintal, while garbled pepper is fetching Rs 65,500 per quintal. The price for 500gl pepper stands at Rs 62,500 per quintal. In Karnataka, pepper prices range between Rs 63,500 and Rs 65,600, depending on the region. Farmers have noted that domestic agricultural conditions have been favorable, indicating a successful harvest season ahead, although the delay in harvesting is providing upward pressure on prices.

Meanwhile, prices in Vietnam have also shown a significant recovery, with spot market rates rising by VND 2,000 to VND 3,500 per kilogram. Pepper is now priced between VND 144,000 and VND 147,000 per kilogram in Vietnamese markets. The delay in harvesting by 15 to 20 days, along with limited material available from farmers and stockists, has contributed to this price rally.

In terms of international markets, FOB prices from origin countries like Indonesia have slightly fallen but remain stable in other regions. The global price recovery has led to a minor increase in domestic market prices in India and Vietnam. However, with harvesting expected to commence in December and January, the sharp rise in prices is unlikely to sustain in the long term. Ample stock availability in both countries is expected to keep prices from rallying too much, and a substantial increase in domestic prices seems unlikely.
