Mumbai, December 03 (CommoditiesControl): Clove prices have remained stable for the second consecutive session, with market conditions reflecting sufficient supply to meet current domestic demand. However, a drop in imports, attributed to a shortage of material in domestic markets, has raised concerns about future supply levels. As a result, prices are expected to see upward pressure in the coming months due to reduced supply this season.
In India, Bilty prices in Shimoga were reported at Rs 950 per kilogram, while in Kottayam, they ranged from Rs 920 to Rs 940 per kilogram, remaining consistent with the previous session. The price for clove stem in Kottayam stands at Rs 145 per kilogram, unchanged from last week.
Internationally, clove prices from major origin countries such as Madagascar and Indonesia have remained stable. Prices for clove from Madagascar are reported to be between $8,400 and $8,500 per metric ton, while prices from Indonesia range from $7,200 to $7,300 per metric ton. Trading activity in Madagascar has been slow due to farmers focusing on the Litchi harvest, while stocks in Indonesia are reported to be extremely limited, further tightening global supply.
In addition to the stable prices in domestic markets, Lalpari clove is estimated to cost between Rs 840 and Rs 860 per kilogram. Other regional prices include Rs 780 to Rs 800 per kilogram in the Comoros, Rs 820 to Rs 840 per kilogram in Madagascar, and Rs 780 to Rs 800 per kilogram in Sri Lanka.
Despite current stability, the expectation of lower supply levels for the season suggests that clove prices may show an upward bias in the coming days, as the global market adapts to tightening availability.
