Mumbai, December 4 (CommoditiesControl): Chilly prices showed a mixed trend across major markets, with Guntur witnessing stability and slight gains, while Khammam and Warangal reported varied movements. Cloudy weather and reduced arrivals have supported prices in some varieties, but harvesting delays may impact short-term price trends.
In Guntur, prices increased by ₹3-10 per kilogram for most varieties, supported by lower arrivals and persistent cloudy weather. Arrivals in Guntur dropped to 70,000 bags, 10,000 fewer than the previous session. In Khammam, arrivals remained stable at 8,000 bags, while Warangal reported 10,000 bags. Prices in these regions were mixed, with Teja varieties showing gains and others experiencing slight declines.
As a cyclone nears Tamil Nadu, the chilly-growing regions of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka are expected to remain dry, with only cloudy skies and intermittent rains. This weather pattern, while not directly affecting the crop, is likely to slow harvesting and extend drying times, further reducing arrivals in the short term.
With arrivals already down by 10,000 bags across major markets, prices have shown resilience in the spot markets. However, as harvesting activities resume in the coming days, prices may come under pressure. Farmers and traders are closely monitoring weather conditions to adjust their harvesting and supply schedules.
Stakeholders remain cautious about the near-term outlook, balancing reduced arrivals and current weather conditions with the potential for resumed harvesting activity.
