Mumbai, 05 Dec (Commoditiescontrol): Moong (green gram) prices maintained a steady trend across Indian markets on Thursday, reflecting subdued miller demand amid a rise in arrivals. Trading activity remained lackluster, particularly in Madhya Pradesh, which resumed operations after a brief hiatus.
Markets such as Indore, Pipariya, and Narsinghpur reported no price fluctuations, while Harda and Khirkiya markets witnessed no trading activity. Similarly, in Gujarat’s Rajkot, prices ranged consistently between ₹5,400 and ₹7,600 per quintal.
Rajasthan’s moong markets, including Jaipur, Kishangarh, Kekri, and Nagaur, also reported steady price levels. In Karnataka, trends varied as Gadag posted a slight decline while Sedam recorded a marginal price increase. Delhi markets, however, did not provide price quotes for a second consecutive day.
To stabilize the market and support farmers, the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has intensified moong procurement under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme. As of November 25, 2024, NAFED procured 71,505 metric tons of moong, primarily from Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Telangana, against its target of 334,416 metric tons.
Analysts expect moong prices to remain range-bound in the short term, supported by steady arrivals and moderate demand. Government procurement initiatives, coupled with stockist activity, are likely to provide a price floor, ensuring stability despite the subdued market sentiment.
