Mumbai, December 6 (Commodities Control): Small cardamom prices declined as buyers exercised caution at elevated price levels, prompting big farmers and stockists to hold back their produce. This reluctance to sell is likely to support prices in the near term until the next picking season.
The most recent auction data reported an average price per kilogram of ₹2,922–2,944, down from the previous session’s ₹2,930–3,033. The maximum price recorded fell to ₹3,203 per kilogram from ₹3,350 in the previous session.
Market Arrivals and Offtake
Arrivals dropped significantly to 57,352 kg compared to the prior session's 66,341 kg, marking the second session in a row with less than 1.0 lakh kg. Offtake also dipped from 63,288 kg to 56,904 kg, though demand remained robust, with 99.2% of the produce being sold, up from 95.4% in the prior session.
Grade-Specific Prices
Prices for grade-specific small cardamom stabilized after recent volatility:
- 7 mm: ₹2,660–2,820 per kg
- 7–8 mm: ₹2,880–2,960 per kg
- 8 mm and above: ₹3,100–3,340 per kg
Large Cardamom Trends
Prices for large cardamom in Northeast markets remained high due to strong demand, increasing by ₹50–100 per kg in yesterday's session.
- Badadana: ₹1,650–1,925 per kg
- Chotadana: ₹1,500–1,650 per kg
Despite today’s weakness, prices have been trading in a broader range over the past 7–8 sessions. With limited supply and lower import volumes, a potential price recovery is anticipated in the coming weeks. However, in the next 2–3 sessions, prices are expected to remain within the current range before any significant upward movement.
