Mumbai, December 10 (CommoditiesControl): Small cardamom prices continued to decline, easing from their recent four-and-a-half-year highs. Over the past 4-5 sessions, cautious buyer behavior has driven prices lower, with the most recent auction reporting an average price of ₹2,876 per kilogram, down from ₹2,914 the previous day. The highest price recorded also dropped to ₹3,316 per kilogram, compared to ₹3,401 in the previous session.
Despite the decline, large farmers and stockists are reluctant to sell at reduced prices, which may stabilize rates until the next picking cycle.
Today's auctions saw total arrivals rise significantly to 114,230 kg, up from 86,723 kg, as trading occurred at two centers instead of one. Around 412 lots were traded, compared to 277 in the previous session. Offtake increased to 100,043 kg, but the offtake percentage fell to 87.6%, below the 90% mark for the first time in several sessions, indicating subdued demand.
Grade-Specific Prices:
- Chana7 mm Grades:Chana ₹2,660–₹2,820/kg
- Chana7-8 mm Grades:Chana ₹2,880–₹2,960/kg
- Chana8 mm and Above:Chana ₹3,100–₹3,340/kg
Prices for most grades have leveled off after sharp increases earlier this month. After breaching the ₹2,900 mark for the first time in 10-12 sessions, prices are expected to stabilize or rise again due to anticipated supply shortages and reduced imports. Market participants remain optimistic about a rebound in the near term.
