MUMBAI, 11 Dec (Commoditiescontrol): The peanut market in Gujarat continues to witness a downward trend, with prices softening by ₹5-10 per 20 kg today. Despite farmers holding large stocks of peanuts, weak market sentiment has caused them to hold back on selling. Traders, on the other hand, are pessimistic about any immediate price recovery, citing the absence of strong demand in the market. Local demand will be crucial to provide any support to prices, they added.
Peanut arrivals in key regions like Saurashtra and North Gujarat are consistently declining, reflecting the subdued activity. In Gondal mandi, around 25,000 bags of peanuts arrived today, with an equal number of trades taking place. Prices for average-quality peanuts ranged between ₹1,050-1,080 per 20 kg, while best-quality peanuts were priced at ₹1,100-1,250 per 20 kg.
Meanwhile, in Rajkot mandi, around 72,000 bags remained pending for sale. Prices for average-quality peanuts were quoted between ₹880-1,265 per 20 kg, while best-quality peanuts ranged from ₹850-1,200 per 20 kg. Across Saurashtra, total arrivals were estimated at 35,000-40,000 bags.
In North Gujarat, the Disa mandi recorded arrivals of 11,643 bags, with prices ranging from ₹1,070-1,300 per 20 kg. Similarly, the Panthawada mandi saw 12,100 bags arriving, with prices quoted between ₹1,000-1,300 per 20 kg. In Palanpur mandi, 9,743 bags were traded at prices ranging from ₹1,050-1,340 per 20 kg.
The market sentiment remains weak, and any recovery will likely depend on a significant increase in local demand or other supportive factors. For now, the peanut market appears to be in a state of cautious waiting.
