Mumbai, May 23 (CommoditiesControl.com): Mentha oil prices showed mixed trends in key Uttar Pradesh mandis today amid subdued trading activity and varied demand conditions across major trading hubs.
In Barabanki mandi, prices eased by ₹10 per kg to ₹940, down from ₹950 previously, owing to ample supply and limited offtake. Conversely, the Chandausi mandi saw slight firmness, with prices marginally increasing to ₹996-998 per kg, up from ₹997-999 per kg earlier, driven by selective local buying support.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), mentha oil futures ended weaker across contracts. The May 2025 contract settled ₹0.8 lower at ₹907.9 per kg. The June 2025 futures recorded a more significant decline, closing down ₹4 at ₹915.2 per kg, while July futures edged down marginally by ₹0.4 to ₹930 per kg.
Open interest indicated mixed trading interest—May contract positions declined by 16 lots, reflecting position liquidation ahead of expiry, whereas the June contract witnessed an addition of 10 lots, signifying fresh positioning by traders ahead of next month's contract rollover.
Prices are expected to remain range-bound in the near term, given the current demand-supply balance and cautious trading approach.
