Monsoon cheers North India, Central, Peninsular regions receive deficient rains previous day

Mumbai, 29 July (Commoditiescontrol) Monsoon cheered North India but Central parts of the country, except Madhya Pradesh received etheri deificient or large deficient rains previous day while the rainfall acrsso the country so far in the current monsoon season is only 2% below normal.

Rainfall received in the country during the monsoon season so far (June1-July 28) is 416.6 mm, 2 percent below normal of 424.1 mm. Around 9 subdivions covering 24 percent area of the country witnessed deficient rains while 18 subdivions received normal rainfall, excess and large excess rains were in 6 and 3 subdivions respectively.

Peninsular India received 22 percent excess rains during June 1-July 28. The Central India received 2 percent above normal rains while northwest part of the country witnessed 7 percent below normal rainfall. Rainfall received in east and northeast parts of the country is 18 percent below normal during June 1 to July 28 in the current monsoon season.


India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that the current spell of widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely to continue over Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Uttrakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh till July 30 and reduction thereafter.


Widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is expected over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal,
Jharkhand and Bihar during 29th and 30th July and over Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh during 29th to 31st July.


Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely to continue over East Rajasthan and West MP29 July to 1st August. It is likely to increase from 30th July. Isolated extremely rains are expected over West MP on 1st Aug.


Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is expected over Konkan and Goa and Ghats area
of Madhya Maharashtra during 29th July to 1st August.
