Mumbai, 9 December (Commoditiescontrol) Importing soya DOC is impractical as the country has its surplus stocks this year, former Chairman of Maharashtra State Commission for Agriculture Cost and Prices and BJP leader Pasha Patel said in a telephonic interaction with Commoditiescontrol.

He said, "India has 117 lakh tonnes of soybean production this year of which 12 lakh tonnes will be used for seed in sowing during next crop season and rest 105 lakh tonnes wil go in crushing. After crushing, we wil get soymeal sound 86 lakh tonnes. India's poultry industry requires only 60 lakh tonnes of soya DOC in a year. Hence, the country has 26 lakh tonnes of surplus soymeal this year. " Patel recently met Union Minister Piyush Goyal and requested him not to allow soymeal import as the farmers will bear the adverse impact of this. "There was shortage of soymeal in last crop season as the India exported a considerable amount of soymeal but that is not the case this year, " He added. International prices of soya DoC are lower as comared to the domestic prices, therefore, soymeal exort is not possible. Currently, farmers are getting good prices of soybean as prices are ruling much above the MSP of Rs 3950 per quintal. Pasha Patel also met Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairing Parshottam Rupala who recommended allowing import of the balanced quantity of GM soya allotted for imports early this year till March 2022. The government had approved for imports of 12 lakh tonnes of soymeal of which 6.5 lakh tonnes have already imported.
